Used in funeral rituals to aspurge the circle, helping the deceased to let go and move forward. Used to invoke Circe. Gather berries when they are ripe (around Samhain.) Store with onyx. Medicinally, it has been used as a sedative.
As every part of the plant is extremely poisonous, neither leaves, berries, nor root should be handled if there are any cuts or abrasions on the hands. The root is the most poisonous, the leaves and flowers less so, and the berries, except to children, least of all. It is said that an adult may eat two or three berries without injury, but dangerous symptoms appear if more are taken, and it is wiser not to attempt the experiment. Though so powerful in its action on the human body, the plant seems to affect some of the lower animals but little. Rabbits, sheep, goats and swine eat the leaves with impunity, and birds often eat the seeds without any apparent effect, but cats and dogs are very susceptible to the poison. -- Grieve's Modern Herbal

Using the power of the elementals to clear negative earth energies

Elementals are essential to the movement of energy through the earth. Sometimes energies get blocked because of human pollution such as motorway constructions, phone mast erection, or mine working that has been abandoned though the resources are not naturally exhausted. Other causes include major housing developments especially in direct line with sacred sites (and so on natural earth power lines not intended for dwellings. Sometimes housing or work places are created from old businesses premises such as mental hospitals & prisons or ware houses. These carry negative feelings from earlier inhabitants that likewise sour and slow the flow of energies through the new homes and offices. These negative earth energies are sometimes called geopathic stress.

If you live or work in a place of negative earth energies then the building or certain rooms may feel cold or seem dark even in the summer. Plants will not thrive and animals will refuse to settle. Children may become fractious there or have nightmares if the blocked psychic streams are below a bedroom. You may feel tired or suffer a series of minor illnesses and accidents in common with others who live or work there. There may be a lot of quarrels seemedly caused by no logical cause. Stress related illnesses are common among workers in such establishments.

Positive Affirmation How-To's

Affirmation works.
In fact, it may be the most powerful force in the universe.
-- Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, Dare To Win.

1. Present Tense

Say your affirmation as if you already have it, not as if you will have in the future.
Eg: "I am happy."
Not: "I will be happy" or "I want to be happy."
(Unless you're developing your desire to be happy. Then "I want to be happy" is a perfect affirmation.)

2. Positive Phrasing

Say what you do want, not what you don’t want.
Eg: "I am happy."
Not: "I'm no longer depressed."

3. Short And Simple

Eg: "I am happy."
Not: "I am happy and all my dreams come true, and I live in grateful abundance and harmony in a world overflowing with grateful abundance and harmony for all beings forever."

4. Relatively Believable

Don't go so far out from where you are now that it seems impossible.
Eg: "I am happy."
Not: "I live in constant ecstacy, 24/7."

5. Start Fresh

It's better to start over rather than trying to change something.
Eg: "I am happy."
Not: "I am free of this burden."

6. Stay Real

Don't tell yourself you're happy when your puppy has just died.
Eg: "I am grateful for the time we had together."
Not: "I am happy, I am happy, I am happy, goshdarnit!"

7. Keep It Vibrant

If it becomes routine and difficult to feel a daily affirmation, update it so it's alive to you.
This is particularly beneficial when your subconscious belief has caught up to your positive affirmation. Then you can take it a little further.
Eg: "I am happy."
Update: "I am loving my life."

8. Don't Sweat The Details

Do an affirmation for the end result you want, not for how you think it will come about.
Eg: "I am engaged in my ideal career."
Not: "I wow them at this job interview," or "Joe Smith offers me the promotion."

9. Tell It To Yourself

Do self affirmations while looking at yourself in a mirror, and saying them in the second person, using your own name.
Eg: "Janice, you are worthy of love and happiness."

How to Make Rose Hip Oil

Although we know that roses grew in ancient Egyptian gardens, we don’t know if the small seeded pod went into the making of rose hip oil. However, in the mid-1800s, making oils by combining vegetable or animal fats with rose hips became a popular hobby, and women rubbed them on their shoulders and necks to freshen up. Today, rose hip oil is common in cosmetics and soaps. With a few ingredients, you can make rose hip oil at home.

Tools
·  Rose hips
·  Carrier oil
·  Small crock pot (or mason jar)

1         Use dried or fresh rose hips. If you are buying them, the dried variety is usually the only kind you will find. Gather fresh rose hips from plants you are reasonably sure were not treated with chemical pesticides and herbicides.

2         Choose your carrier oil. Olive oil or even regular vegetable oil will do in a pinch, but some people prefer a lighter oil, such as almond oil, that leaves a smooth, satiny feel on the skin.

3         After removing any foreign debris from the rose hips, combine 2 cups of the carrier oil and 1 cup of rose hips in the bottom of a small crock pot. Stir well, set the crock pot on “Low,” cover and let it warm for at least 8 hours. A more natural but much slower method is to put the ingredients into a quart-size mason jar, cover and put in a windowsill for 3 weeks. If you choose the jar method, use only dried rose

4         After the recommended amount of time, strain the oil through cheesecloth until no particles are visible. An easy way to do this is to fold the cheesecloth into a large square three or four layers thick and place it over the top of a small bowl. Use a large rubber band to hold the cheesecloth in place, but don’t pull it tight; leave enough of an indentation in the cloth that the oil won’t run over the top.

5         Pour the oil and rose hips into the cloth and let them slowly drain. Discard the rose hips and pour your new rose hip oil into a darkened bottle to store.

The Sacredness of Sage

Herbs can be powerful medicine. Some herbal remedies, whether used in tincture, tea or capsule form, holds an incredible and potent medicinal quality. In addition, there are other plants that, when burnt, the smolder
ing smoke offers various remedies for many physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental imbalances - one such herb is SAGE.

Sage is held sacred by many Native American Indians, because of it’s effective purifying energies. It heals by bringing the patient back into balance and cleanses the body and mind of negative spirits and impurities. It played an intricate part in ancient, as well as current ceremonies and was often included as an ingredient in a mixture called Kinnikinic, and then smoked in a pipe or used was used externally for smudging.

When smoked, it can be mixed with other plants such as white clover, bear berry leaves and mullein. This creates the Kinnikinic smoking mixture to be used in the sacred pipe. The smoke is then given as an offering to the Sprits. The pipe itself acts as the line to the Spirits and the smoke, as it rises, carries the messages. Those who share the pipe, and the smoke, share the same breath.

Sage is a traditional choice for burning and smudging for the Native Americans because of all of the herbs, it is one of the best for cleansing. Medicine People used this herb on people who were ill, to bring them back from the negative place where their body and soul laid. Today, sage is often used in smudging ceremonies for those who are seeking balance and pure thought, spirit and body. An updated smudging ceremony can be performed by nearly anyone who wishes to relieve their worries, open their mind, clear negative thoughts and feelings, harmonize the body and de-stress the spirit. It is often used when a person faces a personal difficulty, when negative luck has seemed to follow, prior to a major transition, within a new house, over a new baby or following a major emotional difficulty. In a sense, whenever a person feels "out of balance" or unlucky.

The following is a Smudging Technique that you can try. But remember - this is POWERFUL MEDICINE and you should be open and understanding of the entire experience.

What: Smudging is a ceremony that uses cleansing smoke to clear away negative energy and to attract positive ones.

Need: * A "bowl" - examples would be, a shell, a stone that has an indented round surface, a piece of pottery or a stone bowl or mortar

* The dried-leaf herbal mixture. If desired, you can also add in cedar (healing) , sweet grass (brings positive energy) and , juniper (for healing).

* A feather, if possible. If not, you can make a feather-like object from paper or material, or simply use your hand.

* Matches

* Drumming or Native music, if desired.

The Ceremony

1. Use your hands to roll the dried herbal leaves, crumbling them into your bowl.

2. Placed the rolled and mixed plants into the bowl.

3. Burn the leaves until they begin to smolder, giving off clouds of smoke.

4. Fan the smoke with a feather or with your hand to circulate it into the air. Starting with your heart and working your way up to the head, you will visualize the smoke entering your body and spirit, pulling out the impurities. Continue this procedure all the way down the body, and back up again.

5. All the while, pray for your spiritual deity to assist you on your life path and ask for good, positive energy and spirits to guide you.

6. Offer the smoke to the 7 directions - North, South, East, West, Father Sky, Mother Earth and the Great Spirit. Request their assistance on your journey and ask they will help to lead the negativity that is attached to your life - out of your life.

7. Continue cleansing anything that you may feel needs the purification. Your home, your family and friends, or even something that is causing you great pain such as a person (smudge their photo or a letter), finances (smudge the bills) or even an illness (smudge the medication).

8. Following the smudging, you should pray to your spiritual advisor and relax your body with soft stretching and then relax your mind with meditation or sleep.

How to Use Rose Hips in Wicca Practice

Things You'll Need

·                                 Rose hips
·                                 Cheese cloth
·                                 Pink candle

1.
o                                                        1
For cleansing before a ritual, or to wash away stress after a hard day, fill a tub with warm water. Add some crushed rose hips tied up in a piece of cheesecloth to your bath water. Also add some rose petals or a few drops of rose oil. Sink into the tub and relax. Meditate and visualize all of your stress and negativity being washed away into the water. Unstop the drain and imagine your stress and negativity going down the drain with the water.
o                                                        2
For a spell to draw love into your life, set up your altar and cast a circle. Light a pink candle while meditating on attracting a compatible romantic partner. Send energy out into the universe to draw a proper mate to yourself, rather than visualizing anyone in particular. String rose hips with a needle and thread to make a necklace out of them. Place the necklace on your pentacle and charge them with your intent. Wear or carry your necklace with you when you go out.
o                                                        3
Share a rose hip tea sweetened with honey with your significant other at the beginning of a romantic evening.
o                                                        4
Place rose hips around the home to bring back harmony and peace if there has been a great deal of disharmony or upheaval. Consecrate and charge the rose hips to radiate with loving, calming energies that will fill your space. Tuck them in cabinets and closets, under pillows, and on window sills and door frames.
o                                                        5
Give a boost to any healing sachets or infusions with rose hips. Add them to your tea for a sore throat or upset stomach. Soak a cloth in a tea of rose hips, wring it out and place it on your head for a headache, over your back for a backache, or on any bruise or sore spot. When your feet ache from standing, soak them in a basin filled with warm rose hip tea.
o                                                        6
When honoring the goddess Venus in ritual, place a bowl of rose hips on your altar.
